How High Digital Exposure is Causing Eye Problems Among Young Adults

As the young adults of today’s generation continue to spend a significant amount of time on their digital devices, experts have noted several health-related issues. In earlier times, young adults were considered the healthiest people in the world. However, that scenario is changing at a fast speed. With the introduction of the digital world, many young adults find it hard to stay away from digital devices. Whether it is social media, online gaming, or chatting, people must keep on top of their feeds to stay updated and connect closely with community members. With this, experts have pointed out that eye problems are increasing rigorously and causing a major concern.

Some of the leading ways through which high digital exposure is causing eye problems are listed as follows:

  1. Eye Strain

One of the first factors that needs to be considered is the strain on the eyes. This is also known as computer vision syndrome, which is caused by exposing the eyes to digital devices for a long period of time. Individuals who spend two or more hours using digital devices are at a high risk of facing this problem. A break or using the devices at an interval can strongly reduce the strain and the risks associated with the problem.

  1. Dry Eyes

When an individual is exposing himself or herself to digital devices for a long time, they start getting into the habit of blinking more often than it is necessary. This causes dry eyes and dryness that can cause long-term problems. It leads to ocular surface damage that can further increase problems for the individuals. This is another major reason young adults find themselves using spectacles at a young age.

  1. Blue Light Exposure

Blue light is emitted from the screens of digital devices. Normal eyes are not equipped to handle and filter blue lights, which can cause severe damage to the retina. This also leads to vision problems if the exposure is consistently high over a long duration of time. This means that individuals who expose themselves to blue light can face eye weakening. Adults are less likely to face problems when compared to children. This is why protecting the eyes from blue light is critical at a young age.

  1. Flicker

If you are in the habit of watching or using your digital devices close to your eyes and without much light in the room, then a flicker can be easily developed. The modulation flicker of the eye can be easily noticeable among adults who are in the habit of using their devices in such conditions for a long duration. Young people are more prone to developing this problem than adults. That is why breaks should be taken between device usage.
